Original story: The highly anticipated remake of Karateka, created by Prince of Persia’s Jordan Mechner, is set to release on Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) on November 7th— a week earlier than initially reported. It will be priced at 800 Microsoft Points.
Developer Liquid Entertainment confirmed that the game will also be “coming soon” to PlayStation Network (PSN), Steam, and iOS, with a general November release date. The PSN and Steam versions will retail for $9.99 (or your local equivalent). The iOS pricing has not been announced, and each console release will feature a free trial.
In an unexpected twist, the game boasts a “compact 40-minute playthrough,” yet its unique “three suitors” system encourages multiple playthroughs. As players take on the roles of three different characters vying for a princess’ affection, the challenge escalates from brute force to true love. Reaching the end as the Brute is relatively straightforward, but securing the princess’ heart as her “True Love” proves significantly more difficult. Indeed, as the saying goes, “love hurts.”
The game features rhythm-based combat and stunning visuals by renowned artist Jeff Matsuda, known for his work on The Batman and Jackie Chan Adventures.
The original game, released in 1984, served as a precursor to both Prince of Persia and Punch-Out!! Its gameplay revolved around a series of one-on-one fights interspersed with brief cutscenes that advanced the story.
