Last night, Infinity Ward released an update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that brought back an April Fool’s playlist, and I just adore it. Shipment is one of the best multiplayer maps in Modern Warfare. Its small, square playing area is a chaotic haven for teams of five or six players. It used to be available round the clock as part of the Shipment 24/7 playlist, which fans had been longing for. Now, Shipment has taken a step up by bringing back the amazing troll update from the April Fool’s 2020 playlist.
“10v10 Shipment is CHAOS” from r/modernwarfare.
With 20 players crammed into Shipment, the mayhem is relentless. You can find yourself dying over and over right after respawning. Killstreaks can be incredibly powerful, wiping out the entire enemy team in a flash. Wheelson, that remote control tank buddy in Modern Warfare, is a hilariously effective weapon. Corpses accumulate at capture points. B, which is in the center of the map and accessible from all sides and other sneaky nooks, is a virtual inferno where bodies pile up so high that players can hide while prone. Surviving for more than 10 seconds is a feat. Surviving longer than that means you’ve likely got enough kills to call in a Gunship… or worse.
It sounds like a nightmare, frustrating, and seemingly impossible to handle. And it is all of those things. But once you accept that reasonable spawns don’t exist in this chaotic abyss and that you’ll likely die dozens of times per match while getting a ton of kills, Shipment 10v10 becomes something special. It’s like a blistering kill-em-up that’s the exact opposite of Modern Warfare’s boring, camping large maps. It’s kind of like A Clockwork Orange’s aversive therapy for the eyes, but you’re the one experiencing it.
“Shipment 10v10: from r/modernwarfare”.
Sure, Shipment 10v10 won’t be for everyone. Definitely not for those who are overly concerned about their kill/death ratio. But it’s a perfect fit for me. And it’s great that you end up powering through the grind thanks to all those kills. That’s why Modern Warfare describes the playlist this way: “Call of Duty players only want one thing… and it’s disgusting.”
What’s next? 20v20 Shipment? Or maybe, wait for it, Shipment battle royale? Only time will tell.
