Total War: Warhammer 2’s latest trailer is truly a standout. Creative Assembly has been crafting amazing in-engine cinematic trailers for their superb fantasy strategy game for quite some time, and this latest one for the DLC The Warden & the Paunch takes the game to even greater heights. It evokes a battle straight out of The Lord of the Rings movie, with a swarm of Mad Max-style goblin chariots bearing down on an army of elves in a dramatic clash. Golems sprout from the ground, a burning phoenix crashes down, mages unleash magic bolts, and the two faction leaders, Eltharion the Warden of Tor Yvresse and Grom the Paunch, are about to face off. I simply can’t wait to see what comes next in HBO’s series. The trailer does its job brilliantly, and here’s the official description: “Long has Eltharion the Warden kept watch, deterring Greenskin incursions. After defeating Grom in the past, he vowed no Orc or Goblin filth would return. But Grom has other plans. His craving for a rematch and his vengeance are matched only by his insatiable hunger. Prepare for the WAAAGH!”. The Warden & the Paunch trailer is just one of many excellent Total Warhammer 2 trailers. Take this one for The Shadow & the Blade DLC, which is also great. And the Hunter & The Beast trailer is super cool too. Creative Assembly has a FAQ about how they create these in-engine trailers. For The Warden & the Paunch, they use in-game assets and code as a base, shooting with cinematic techniques to create movie-like footage. They continue to support Total Warhammer 2, and I have high expectations for the future trailers of the upcoming third game.
