It’s no shock that this year’s EA Play event is going digital, especially given the cancellation of most in-person events due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The online extravaganza is set to kick off on 11th June at midnight UK time, and it holds the promise of “world premieres, news and more”. As of now, that’s all the intel we’ve got. There’s no precise schedule yet, but one can assume it’ll bear some resemblance to the livestreams of previous years. I’d wager it’ll be filmed from the comfort of people’s homes.
EA Play usually takes place shortly before E3 in Los Angeles. It offers guests the chance to watch live interviews with developers, give games a whirl, or encounter their beloved game characters. The decision to host a digital event sees EA Play follow in the footsteps of Gamescom by temporarily adopting a fully-online format. Meanwhile, poor old E3 revised its initial plan for an online version of the show. It seems highly likely that many of those announcements will now take place during the four-month Summer Game Fest hosted by Geoff Keighley, which commences in May.
