Sekiro is undoubtedly an astonishing single-player adventure, but even the most seasoned players sometimes find themselves yearning for a little assistance.
Enter Sekiro Online, a remarkable mod for the PC version of the game that introduces both cooperative and PVP elements (via DSOGaming). The mod creator, LukeYui, elaborated that they endeavored to make the online mode as closely resemble the online features of the Souls series as possible. Although it’s evident that it’s not as seamless – considering it originated as a personal project and is still in the early stages of public beta.
Operated through P2P connections instead of a central server, Sekiro Online can accommodate up to six players, with one acting as the host and the other five manifesting as phantoms. Alongside co-op and PVP, the mod also incorporates the Souls series’ invasion feature, enabling a player to enter an unsuspecting player’s world “as a spirit of vengeance” for a battle to the death. To ensure some equilibrium, invading players and phantoms will be adjusted to the local level of the player. Otherwise, it would be rather unjust if an advanced player constantly dominated. Although, I suppose that could be in line with the spirit of Sekiro.
LukeYui has unveiled a couple of videos showcasing how the mod functions, and thus far, it appears quite remarkable – although I sense that the PVP aspect might be challenging to master purely due to the rapid pace of battles and the inability to predict another player’s attack patterns.
