If you’re an avid user of the PlayStation App on your mobile device, be it a phone or a tablet, then pay attention – a significant change is on the horizon. As of today, the app will bid farewell to its messaging functionality.
You might be wondering why this is happening. Well, much like Facebook, Sony has decided to separate the messaging feature from the main PlayStation app and offer it as a standalone entity.
For those using the PlayStation App on iOS and Android, an update is now awaiting you, which will eliminate the messaging functionality from the app. Once you install this update, when you attempt to access the messages section in the PlayStation App, you’ll be prompted to download the new, dedicated messages app instead.
And, as you could probably have anticipated, this new app goes by the name of PlayStation Messages.
At present, neither the PlayStation App nor the new PlayStation Messages app comes with any new features. However, it’s highly likely that Sony made this decision to ensure that both apps can be updated more frequently and with greater ease.
Rest assured, the PlayStation App will continue to operate as it did before. You’ll still be able to manage your game downloads, control your PS4, and use it as a second screen in certain games.
