Epic has made an announcement that the next free game to be featured in its store is on the horizon. This is part of the company’s continuous effort to attract new customers and draw them into its realm. The sailing-centered open-world survival game, Windbound, is all set to take the center stage as the next free offering.
Windbound is the creation of developer 5 Lives Studios and presents a visually captivating combination of survival, crafting, and exploratory open-world sailing. Players embark on a journey from one island to another, striving to uncover the enigmas of the world.
“As Kara, you are a warrior who finds herself caught in a fierce storm at sea, separated from her tribe,” 5 Lives explains in its official description. “Thrown from your boat and at the mercy of the turbulent waters, you are washed ashore on the Forbidden Islands, a mysterious paradise.”

Despite its alluring aesthetic and appealing concept, Windbound received a rather mixed response upon its launch last year. Reviews seemed to appreciate its exploratory focus, while highlighting some cumbersome core mechanics as a cause for concern.

In the meantime, Playtonic Games’ exceptionally brilliant Donkey Kong Country-inspired platformer, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, is available as Epic’s current free game.
