The Last of Us 2 seems destined to make its appearance in February 2020, as various reports suggest.
In a recent interview, when asked about the highly anticipated Naughty Dog sequel’s release date, Ashley Johnson, the actress portraying Ellie, appears to attempt to respond with “February”. However, as she is mouthing the “feh”, she is interrupted by the interviewer. (Head to the one hour and seven minutes mark to catch this.)
This aligns with a tweet from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who stated a couple of weeks ago that The Last of Us 2 has been shifted from fall 2019 to early 2020 – “possibly February”.
Seems like Death Stranding is on the verge of being announced for a November release. The Last of Us 2 was initially planned for fall 2019, but I’ve just learned that it’s been pushed to early 2020, perhaps February? Anyway, it’s a wild final year for PS4 https://t.co/wh6kimA73b

Video game analyst Daniel Ahmad then went to ResetEra to support this notion, claiming that February 2020 is the current internal date at Naughty Dog.
Of course, numerous things can occur between now and February 2020, so this release window might undergo changes. Assuming The Last of Us 2 remains on track, the PlayStation 4 seems poised to have an exceptional 12 months before the anticipated launch of the PS5 in time for Christmas 2020. Awaiting their releases are Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 remake, the full launch of Media Molecule’s Dreams, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, and of course, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us 2.
Not too shabby!
(By the way, the video interview with Ashley Johnson is truly worth watching. In it, Johnson discusses returning to The Last of Us as Ellie and the emotional impact involved in portraying her.)
