Arc System Works has excitedly announced on Twitter that Guilty Gear Strive has surpassed the remarkable milestone of half a million copies sold!
This superb fighting game (be sure to check out my in-depth Guilty Gear Strive review for more details) made its grand entrance on 11th June.
Guilty Gear Strive seems to have emerged as a smashing success for the series, which historically has occupied a relatively smaller niche within the fighting game landscape.
Strive got off to an outstanding start on PC, reaching a peak Steam concurrent player count of just over 31,000, as per SteamDB.
This peak concurrent players number on Steam is higher than that achieved by popular fighting game heavyweights Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7. However, Arc System Works’ own Dragon Ball FighterZ still holds the record for the highest peak concurrent players on Steam for a fighting game with an impressive 44,303.
But Guilty Gear Strive has not been without its controversies. Arc System Works faced criticism for stealthily patching out mentions of Uyghur, Tibet, and Taiwan in a China-related lore entry. Surprisingly, neither the developer nor the publisher Bandai Namco has commented on this change nearly a month after it was noticed by players. It didn’t take long for a “decensor” mod to surface.
Arc System Works has stated that it will reveal the first DLC character for Strive on its YouTube channel at 2am UK time on 21st July.
Last month, we reported on a dataminer who uncovered what might be the list of Strive’s Season Pass 1 DLC characters.
CAUTION: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD.
The proposed five DLC characters are Happy Chaos, Asuka (That Man), Goldlewis Dickinson, Jack-O’ Valentine, and Jam Kuradoberi.
The burning question remains: Who will be released first?
