Last night, Bungie unveiled its most recent Destiny 2 development roadmap, and amid the game’s anticipated forthcoming additions, a surprise emerged: Crucible Labs.
Very shortly, starting on 29th May, Destiny 2’s player-versus-player mode will accommodate “experimental” fresh content, as Bungie elaborated.
“Update 1.2.1 will incorporate a novel feature aimed at granting you a glimpse behind the curtains and a more audible voice in our creative procedure,” stated design lead Derek Carroll.
“Crucible Labs will provide every Destiny 2 player with access to experimental PvP content. Subsequently, we’ll have an opportunity to seek your feedback to steer our final iterations. You’ll acquire more knowledge about Labs prior to its launch.”
It’s uncommon for Bungie to disclose a feature so near to its launch. It’s particularly atypical for it to be something intended to be unfinished.
However, following a rocky launch and a subsequent reversal of numerous earlier concepts (such as resurrecting six-versus-six Crucible matches), Bungie appears to be persisting in its pursuit to regain fans by offering new activities more promptly.
So, what could Labs present? Well, it’s difficult to envision Destiny 2 obtaining a 100-player battle royale mode in the near future. But experiments with new playstyles, regulations, and modifiers seem probable. Destiny 2 is at its finest when it doesn’t take itself overly seriously – when it’s enjoyable. Here’s hoping Crucible Labs offers a bit more of that.
Elsewhere in the roadmap, you’ll observe a new summer seasonal event – Solstice of Heroes – in addition to the comeback of bounties, and a prestige mode for Destiny 2’s two raid lairs. All of this is arriving in July.
