Sony is extremely optimistic about the prospects of the PlayStation 5. It is so confident that it anticipates its new console to outperform the highly successful launch of the PlayStation 4.
In an interview with the Korean outlet Naver, the PlayStation boss, Jim Ryan, stated that his company is expecting a more powerful launch for the PS5 compared to its predecessor. The PlayStation 4 sold an impressive 7 million units by the end of its first financial year.
“We believe that the PS5 will achieve higher sales in its first fiscal year than what we sold during the first fiscal year of the PS4 launch,” Ryan affirmed.
The PS4 made its debut in November 2013 and had four months on the store shelves to accumulate those 7 million sales. Seven years later, the PS5 is expected to have a similar time frame.
On November 12th, Korea will receive the PS5 before the UK. At the same time, Sony’s console will also be available in Japan, North America, and Australia.
The PlayStation 5 will arrive in the UK a week later, on November 19th.
Ryan was also queried about the increase in the price of next-gen games from certain publishers, which means that some Sony titles will be launched at a staggering £70 in the UK.
Sony has previously discussed the advantages offered by the next-gen, and this was the message reiterated here.
“It is challenging to discuss the overall game market or other game consoles, but I believe the value is evident in the case of the PS5,” Ryan responded.
“We will thrill fans worldwide with the best exclusive games in the market currently and provide a truly next-generation device experience that will enchant them.”
Wes examined the increase in the price of next-gen games up to £70 last week and contemplated what we are receiving in terms of value in exchange for this new norm.
