According to a fresh report, Sony is set to abandon the DualShock controller for the upcoming PlayStation. Sources informed CVG that Sony has been testing new controllers equipped with biometric sensors on the grips and an LCD touch-screen.
This piece of information aligns with what Eurogamer has gathered from its own sources. We are aware that as of six months ago, Sony was testing a controller featuring an LCD touch-screen on the front and biometrics functionality on the back. We were told that these designs have been altering almost every month, and they are intended for the controller of the next PlayStation.
Biometrics technology collects data from the player’s body, including temperature and heart rate. The Half-Life developer, Valve, has been conducting experiments with this technology, aiming to uncover new gaming experiences that could benefit from it.
Sony chose not to make a comment.
The DualShock controller made its debut along with the original PlayStation in 1997 and has been utilized for every PlayStation home console ever since.
It is anticipated that the PlayStation Vita will be compatible with the next PlayStation. CVG suggests that the existing PlayStation 3 controllers will function with the console in a similar manner to how Wii Remotes work with the Wii U.
