After keeping us anxiously waiting here in Europe, Pokémon Go’s new update has finally arrived and is now live.
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.
Download it without delay and you’ll have the ability to choose a Pokémon as your buddy. This chosen Pokémon will then make an appearance on your profile page and gradually produce candy as you walk together for an extended period. The longer you walk with your buddy Pokémon, the more candy you’ll accumulate.
To generate one candy for a particular Pokémon family, you’ll need to walk a distance ranging from 1 to 5 kilometers. Rarer breeds of Pokémon will require you to cover a greater distance for the candy to be generated.
With a candy in hand, you have the option to either enhance the Pokémon’s strength or use it to facilitate the evolution of the creature.
This feature is particularly beneficial for starter Pokémon such as Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle, as they are not commonly found in the wild.
Another excellent application of this feature is to generate a substantial amount of Magikarp candy (one per 1km) and work towards evolving it into the powerful Gyarados.
We possess a comprehensive guide for the Pokémon Go buddy feature, detailing what is required for every Pokémon.
Trainers in North America who have installed the update in the past few days have discovered an Easter egg as well. Walk 10 kilometers with Pikachu as your buddy and it will leap onto your shoulder. (Note that this unique feature does not apply to other Pokémon, not even Snorlax.)
Pokémon Go’s update also incorporates support for the forthcoming Pokémon Go Plus gadget, which will be available on Friday with a recommended retail price of £30. However, it should be noted that third-party sellers are attempting to sell them on Amazon Marketplace and eBay at a much higher price.
Should you decide to invest in a Plus? We’ll provide our in-depth assessment on Friday.
