Netflix is currently knee-deep in a plethora of video game adaptations, and as its Geeked Week of revelations comes to a close later today, we’ll start to witness the outcomes of at least some of these ongoing endeavors. It’s shaping up to be a bustling affair, with debut footage from the likes of The Witcher Season 2 and Cuphead on the horizon. But before that, we get a sneak peek at the opening three minutes of the streaming service’s CGI Resident Evil series before its July release.
Dubbed Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, this animated adaptation unfolds several years after the events of Resident Evil 4. Leon S. Kennedy once more finds himself serving as the bodyguard of the US president. Compared to his typical escapades, this might seem like a cakewalk, were it not for the looming threat of a zombie outbreak.
Claire Redfield also steps into the fray in Leon’s latest adventure, launching her own investigation as the (supposedly canonical) events unfold. And if your curiosity is piqued about how the proceedings get underway, you can check out the first three minutes of the show below.
There’s no clear indication as of yet about how many episodes Season 1, which is being helmed by Eiichiro Hasumi, might comprise. However, we do know that Nick Apostolides and Stephanie Panisello will be reprising their video game roles as Leon and Claire respectively.
This isn’t the first glimpse we’ve had of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, of course. Back in May, Netflix treated us to two and a half minutes of zombie-slaying, undead rats, and hulking mutants. Nor is it the sole Resident Evil project in the works at Netflix at the moment. The company is also toiling away on a live-action show focusing on “the Wesker kids”, which sounds rather reminiscent of Stranger Things.
Netflix has vowed that we’ll receive some updates on the latter as part of Geeked Week later today, but Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will be the first project to grace our screens. It’ll hit the streaming service next month, on July 8th.
