According to the lore of “One Piece,” Laugh Tale is the ultimate island on the Grand Line. It is where Gol D. Roger and his crew left the legendary treasure that is said to hold the most profound secret of the world. However, not all of Roger’s crew made it to Laugh Tale, as Buggy revealed in his recent proclamation to Mihawk and Crocodile.

Buggy’s long-cherished dream is rekindled after learning about Shanks’ plan to go in pursuit of the One Piece. Being held hostage by the two former Warlords, Buggy attempts to arouse the ambitions of his captors to seek out the treasure. In his speech, he states that although he was a part of the Roger Pirates, he and Shanks didn’t reach Laugh Tale for “some reason.” And that very reason is actually unveiled during Oden’s flashback.

Buggy fell gravely ill as the Roger Pirates were preparing to set sail for the final island, contracting a high fever that left him confined to his bed. Despite his intense desire to see Laugh Tale and discover the One Piece, Buggy was physically unable to go.
Being both each other’s worst foes and closest friends at that time, Shanks chose to stay behind to take care of Buggy. He missed the opportunity to uncover what the legendary treasure was, yet he didn’t have a single ounce of regret. He told Roger that if they were to lay eyes on the One Piece, they would do it on their own ship. And finally, both he and Buggy are living up to that very statement.
