Bethesda has released an update for Fallout 4, which enriches Codsworth’s vocabulary by adding over 300 new player names.
When Fallout 4 made its debut last year, Codsworth, your robotic companion, boasted an impressive array of names that were vividly voice acted. In other words, these were the player character names that he would utter as part of his voiced dialogues.
Codsworth could previously pronounce 924 player names, and within this list, there were numerous references to sci-fi, video games, and pop culture names. You could even name your character KalEl, also known as Superman, and Codsworth would address you by that name.
The Fallout 4 1.6 update is now available on PC and will be arriving on Xbox One next week (there is no specific release window for PlayStation 4). This update adds 300 names to the existing list. Among the new additions are all the astrological signs. So, indeed, you can name your character Cancer, and Codsworth will call you by that name.
Wrestling enthusiasts might be drawn to Cena. Fans of Girls Aloud might be interested in Cheryl. Game of Thrones aficionados might be intrigued by Joffrey. Star Wars devotees might be keen on Phasma. Rhianna’s followers might be attracted to the name Rhianna. Neil Gaiman’s fans might be interested in Sandman. Xbox enthusiasts might be captivated by Scorpio. Mortal Kombat fans might be fascinated by Scorpion. And Benedict Cumberbatch’s admirers might be interested in Sherlock.
Regrettably, Alexia is still not included, which is of significance to me as that’s the name of my Fallout 4 character (and also my wife’s).
As one might anticipate, Reddit has unearthed all the new names and neatly compiled them into a comprehensive list. Take a look and make your selection.
Eurogamer video supremo Ian “Goobling Gamsers” Higton crafted the video below to showcase Codsworth’s expanded vocabulary. Give it a viewing.
Meanwhile, update 1.6 introduces a number of new features, among them ExitSave. Now, when exiting to the main menu, an ExitSave will be created. Thus, during the next play session, the ExitSave will be automatically deleted after you load it. Importantly, the ExitSave functions in all difficulty levels, including Survival.
