It seems that Team Ninja’s Nioh games are not likely to make their way to Xbox in the near future.
Both Nioh titles were initially launched on PS4 and PC, yet they never found their place on Microsoft’s console.
When speaking to VGC, Nioh director Fumihiko Yasuda played down the prospect of the game arriving on Xbox.
“There’s truly nothing significant to mention about this,” he stated. “At present, there’s not a substantial likelihood of having Nioh on Xbox platforms. However, we do hope that Xbox fans will relish Wo Long and anticipate the release of that game. That’s probably all we can say on this matter for the time being.”
This doesn’t imply that Team Ninja is not impressed by Xbox or its Game Pass offering.
Their next game, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, will be released on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox. It will be available on Game Pass from day one.
Yasuda hopes that Game Pass will enhance the game’s online multiplayer experience.
“We are extremely delighted that so many players will have the opportunity to potentially try a Team Ninja title for the first time with Wo Long. But just because it’s on Game Pass, we haven’t made any significant changes… That’s not something we’ve done on the development team side,” Yasuda remarked.
“But what we genuinely believe is a significant advantage of having the game on Game Pass is that with so many new players giving it a try, it could potentially help the online community expand. Then, there will be a greater number of players for people to engage with online or play together in the multiplayer aspects of the game. So, we sincerely hope that this will keep the community in an excellent state and thriving.”
Yasuda is also optimistic about the success of Xbox in Team Ninja’s domestic market of Japan.
“We do sense that there is a more prominent presence of the Xbox platform in Japan. We are definitely observing this here. We think that Game Pass is assisting a significantly larger number of people in becoming familiar with the Xbox platform – more people are coming in and playing games and being a part of it,” Yasuda said.
“However, from our perspective, merely from a numerical standpoint, it seems that in Japan, Nintendo consoles and the Switch appear to be rather dominant. But yes, we definitely feel in Japan that Xbox is undoubtedly attempting to gain a stronger foothold with the current platform.”
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is set to be released next year. Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa defended Team Ninja’s decision to adhere to one difficulty level, while providing multiple ways for players to approach the challenge.
