Blood Bowl and Styx: Master of Shadows developer Cyanide is now venturing into a new territory by developing a captivating video game adaptation of the tabletop RPG Werewolf: The Apocalypse, which is an enticing offshoot of the World of Darkness.
We were well aware that Paradox holds the video game rights to this franchise, which also encompasses Vampire: The Masquerade. This acquisition took place in 2015 when Paradox obtained the series from CCP. However, there was a lack of clarity regarding what the publisher of Cities: Skylines would precisely do with it. But now, the mystery has been unveiled.
In recent years, Cyanide has been kept extremely busy, having crafted titles such as Blood Bowl 2, Styx: Master of Shadows, Space Hulk: Deathwing. Currently, the studio is hard at work on Styx: Shards of Darkness and an incredibly fascinating Call of Cthulhu game.
Paradox itself is not the actual publisher for this particular project. Instead, it is allowing Focus Home to take the lead in producing the project in collaboration with the World of Darkness publisher, White Wolf.
The gameplay mechanics of Werewolf: The Apocalypse remain somewhat ambiguous. However, we do know that it places players in the shoes of a “rage-fuelled Werewolf warrior” known as the Garou, who battles against a corrupting force named the Wyrm.
“The world is on the brink of collapse. When will you unleash your rage? The core question of Werewolf: The Apocalypse is more pertinent now than ever before. The collaboration with Focus and Cyanide will ultimately grant gamers the chance to immerse themselves in the raw power and primal spirituality of the Garou,” stated Martin Ericsson, the lead story writer of this RPG adaptation.
“What is the cost of saving the world with fangs and claws? Discover it for yourself as we delve into the darkest recesses of a dying planet.”
As of yet, no specific release window has been disclosed, but the publisher has indicated that Werewolf: The Apocalypse will be making its way to “consoles and PC”.
