As part of its electrifying live, onstage showcase at PAX East, Gearbox made a thrilling announcement: the long-anticipated Borderlands 1 remaster is not just a rumor anymore, but a reality. It’s set to make its grand entrance on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC next Wednesday, April 3rd.
Gearbox dubs this remaster as the “definitive version” of their beloved 2009 loot-and-shooter masterpiece. It encompasses the base game along with all the DLC. Not only that, but it also brings forth an array of new weapons and undergoes a “substantial” visual makeover. With enhanced lighting, textures, and character models, as well as 4K and HDR support on compatible consoles, the game is set to offer a visually stunning experience. Additionally, various gameplay enhancements and quality of life improvements are also on the cards. For instance, you can look forward to a brand-new mini-map, an assortment of character heads and skins, gold chests and keys, and the exciting addition of support for 4-player split-screen co-op, an upgrade from the original’s two-player limit.
This upgraded version will be known as the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. And here’s some great news for existing Borderlands 1 owners on Steam – they will be able to upgrade to this enhanced version for free.
Furthermore, April 3rd marks the release of a special Ultra HD Texture Pack for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. Specifically designed for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, this pack unsurprisingly boosts the visual fidelity of Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and all their DLC for those gaming in 4K. However, Gearbox assures that the enhancements can be appreciated on other displays as well. The Ultra HD Texture Pack will be made available at no cost and is also headed to Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on PC.
Finally, there’s a delightful surprise in store for Borderlands 2 VR players on PS4. Gearbox reveals that they will be incorporating all four DLC chapters – Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep – in a complimentary update this summer. Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming months.
