Autobiographical family drama That Dragon, Cancer, which tells the story of raising a little boy with a terminal illness, has initiated a Kickstarter campaign to raise $85K and complete the development.
Previously, the game was supposed to be fully funded by Ouya for an exclusive launch on the Android platform. However, developer Ryan Green has made a decision to expand the game’s potential market by releasing it on PC and Mac via Steam, and Valve has already given the approval.
“We’re launching simultaneously on Ouya and PC,” Green explained to Eurogamer in an email. “Ouya has been extremely cooperative to work with, and this is just another aspect. They are supporting our aspiration to share this with as many people as feasible, so we have agreed to terms that permit us to release on PC simultaneously.”
The unfortunate news is that this implies That Dragon, Cancer has been postponed. Some setbacks were anticipated when Green’s son Joel, the game’s subject who was stricken with cancer, passed away earlier this year at the age of five.
“The vision for the game has evolved along with the Green’s story, and we truly desire to honor Joel with the current vision, which demands more funds,” Green explained.
You can pre-order a copy of That Dragon, Cancer for its estimated October 2015 release on Steam and Ouya for $15. $30 will also get you the soundtrack.
That Dragon, Cancer has until 12th December to reach its $85K goal.
