The highly anticipated crossover between Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, has a fresh launch trailer to celebrate its recent release in Japan.
We witness the typically composed Phoenix Wright taking on a knight, while Layton remains composed in the face of magic and peril, just like a true gentleman, and, of course, there’s plenty of index finger pointing.

Regrettably, there’s still no information on whether the joint venture between Level-5 and Capcom will make its way to the West. Every game in the Professor Layton series has made it to this region, but the same cannot be said for his spiky-haired lawyer pal. (Or adversary. I truly have no idea since I don’t speak Japanese and I don’t own a Japanese 3DS. The system is region-locked, unlike the original DS).
Most games in the Ace Attorney franchise have been released in the West, and indeed the upcoming Ace Attorney 5 has already been confirmed for English localization. However, Gyakuten Kenji 2, also known as Ace Attorney Investigations 2, has not received a Western release. It’s a pity as we quite enjoyed the first one.
“The costs of localization are higher than the projected return,” stated Capcom vice-president Christian Svensson on the company blog regarding the Ace Attorney Investigations sequel. “Could this content appear on some other platform in the future? Possibly, but there’s nothing on that front for me to discuss. I understand there are fans who would like to have this, and I’ll surely explore feasible ways for it to happen in the future with our strategy and R&D teams, but no guarantees.”
Of course, Level-5 handled the publishing duties for this crossover in Japan, so it has more influence in the matter and is remaining silent about it. Considering that Level-5 has been releasing obscure airport simulators and tabletop RPGs on the eShop, it would make sense that it would also bring this blend of two beloved franchises to Europe and North America. Only time will tell.
