United Label and Odd Bug Studio have announced that Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter, the sequel to their 2021 action-RPG, will be hitting the market in February 2025 for both PC and consoles. Technically, this is a slight delay from the originally planned 2024 release. Recommended Videos
Now, for a rather interesting reason, rodents seem to make for the most outstanding fantasy protagonists, as vividly demonstrated by the likes of Redwall and Ghost of a Tale. Back when writing for Destructoid, Chris Moyse gave the very first Tails of Iron a solid 7.5 in a review filled with praise, declaring it to be “one of the most distinctive RPG experiences of the year.”
Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter</em takes the action on a thrilling journey far up north. You step into the shoes of Arlo, the "heir to the Warden of the Wastes." This game is a captivating, side-scrolling, soulslike, and dark fantasy extravaganza. After the Frog/Rat war, a new threat emerges in the form of the Bats. Arlo must traverse the icy wastes of the north in a quest to "Hunt down giant beasts. Unite disparate clans. Upgrade your settlement. And uncover a terrifying secret of blood and crown…" Truly, it's rad.
Chris Moyse’s review piqued my interest in Tails of Iron, but I have to be honest with you. It finds itself in this space that’s just high enough to make me consider giving it a go but low enough on my priority list that I’m not entirely sure I’ll ever actually get around to playing it. These days, the side-scroller genre is incredibly crowded. I barely have the patience to even glance at a game with “metroidvania” in the description. I don’t hate these types of games by any means; it’s simply that throughout my life, I’ve played so many of them that it’s hard to get overly excited anymore. I don’t have the time anymore to get fully immersed in games that haven’t grabbed my attention right away. Once I finish one, it’s on to the next. Though, truth be told, I often find myself playing multiple games simultaneously; alternating between them.
What I’m saying is that Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter looks absolutely amazing. You should definitely give it a try, and then I’ll live vicariously through your gaming experience. Tails of Iron 2 is set to release in February 2025 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.
