The world of Black Myth: Wukong is filled with an abundance of flora to gather, and much of it is used for crafting valuable medicine. However, while you can initially pick various herbs and fungi early in the game, the way to unlock the medicine crafting mechanism in Black Myth: Wukong doesn’t become readily available right away.

Medicine crafting is unlocked in Chapter Two of Black Myth: Wukong. But, unlike many other abilities you acquire throughout the game, there is a possibility to miss it. You need to engage in a conversation with a specific individual in the arid landscape that constitutes the game’s second chapter. If you don’t do this, well, I’m not certain if you will be able to unlock medicine crafting at a later point.
Where to Unlock Medicine Crafting in Black Myth: Wukong
To unlock medicine crafting, you’ll have to communicate with a particular person.

The friendly, albeit a bit eccentric, fox-like yaoguai says he will teach you medicine crafting after you retrieve a formula stolen from him by a frog.

But first things first, you’ll need to locate the medicine-crafter. From the starting area of the chapter, head towards the pond and take the path that winds deeper into the rocky terrain on your left.

Navigate the winding path while fending off enemies. Soon, you’ll stumble upon a Keeper’s Shrine, which is guarded by a rat yaoguai.

From the shrine, head towards the bridge that separates you from the nearby town. Drop from the bridge (you can also find a path that goes around) into the crevasse below.

Go inside the dark cave. The fox yaoguai you need to speak with is near the cave’s exit.

To complete his task, you must confront the frog that is squatting in the pond near the cave exit. This creature is similar to a field boss, just like the Wandering Wight, but thankfully, it’s not as stressful.
The frog boss, named Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, can still be a challenging opponent. It uses its long tongue to jab and sweep your feet from a distance. Getting too close is also perilous as it will swipe at you with its hand or hop onto your head. At a medium range, it’ll try to close the gap with a short-hop attack.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw also employs lightning powers. It charges its tongue attack with electricity. After reducing its health by around a quarter, it’ll enter a new phase where it will call down lightning from the sky and use its tongue to suck you into its mouth. It will also send out slow-moving bolts that can track you down. If you are hit by enough of its electrical attacks, you’ll enter a Shocked State, which increases the damage you take.

Once the frog is defeated, you receive the Evil Repelling Medicament formula, a Stone Spirit, a Yaoguai Core, and Tadpole materials. Take the formula to our fox friend, and he will reward you with two Evil Repelling Medicament items, along with knowledge on how to make it and much more.

How to Craft Celestial Medicine in Black Myth: Wukong
We haven’t finished with our fox friend yet. As you progress further into Chapter Two, you’ll encounter our medicine-crafter once more. We now know his name is Xu Dog, but that’s not the most important outcome of your second meeting.
Xu Dog can be found near the Keeper’s Shrine at the Crouching Tiger Temple Cellar. Speak with him and he’ll allow you to create Celestial Medicine.
Celestial Medicine comes in the form of pills that offer permanent status buffs. You can craft the medicine by exchanging Will and Mind Cores, rare ingredients that can be obtained through activities such as defeating bosses. Some pills require more than one Mind Core to create, so make sure to check how many are needed per pill.

Here is the list of Celestial Medicines you can craft when you meet Xu Dog again:
- Jade Lotus Pill
- Increases max health
- Taiyi Pill
- Increases max mana
- Nonary Pill
- Increases max stamina
- No-Mind Medicament
- Increases defense
- Iron Bull Pill
- Increases stamina recovery rate
- Yang Supplementing Pill
- Increases Chill resistance
- Water Jade Pill
- Increases Burn resistance
- Bloom Seed Decoction
- Increases Poison resistance
- Wujin Pill
- Increases Shock resistance
You can reverse the buffs after purchasing a single Pill item from Xu Dog. Once you do, a new option called ‘Remake Celestial Medicines’ appears in Xu Dog’s menu. Select a buff to revert and hold the button to return the ingredients to your inventory.
The second chapter of Black Myth: Wukong holds many more secrets and activities. If you’re trying to figure out how to assist the Drunken Pig or find more Yaoguai Cores, we have the information you need.
