Destiny 2 is set to go offline for a whopping 25 hours prior to the launch of its ultimate expansion, The Final Shape.
The downtime is slated to commence at 5 pm UK time on June 3rd (that’s 9 am PT, 12 pm ET) and will come to an end at 7 pm on June 4th. This period is necessary to prepare for the new expansion, which is estimated to consume at least 129GB of free space on every platform, and a staggering nearly 300GB on Steam.
In the latest This Week in Destiny update, it’s detailed that players on PS3 can pre-download update 8.0.0.2 from 6 pm UK time (10 am PT, 1 pm ET) on June 1st. However, PC and Xbox players will have to wait until the same time on June 3rd.
The storage requirements are truly demanding. For a PS5, you’ll need 144GB of free space, and 130GB on PS4. Xbox Series X/S players require a substantial 165GB free, while Xbox One players need 139GB.
It’s the PC players who bear the brunt of the colossal download sizes. The Microsoft Store version demands 156GB, while the Epic Games Store and Steam require you to have 280GB and 300GB of free space respectively – or even more, depending on the languages you have installed.

Thankfully, once everything is installed, the install size will shrink. The Steam and EGS install size will occupy a more reasonable 155GB and 144GB respectively. Nevertheless, it still constitutes a significant portion of your console’s HDD, especially if you’re playing on last-gen systems or the 500GB Xbox Series S, as Destiny 2 will consume a full third of your HDD.
In case you missed it, The Final Shape DLC leaked online after the expansion was temporarily available on PS5 yesterday. Developer Bungie “took down” the servers, but not before spoilers about the story, raid, trophies, loot, and much more flooded social media.
Bungie later acknowledged that spoilers were shared online, and that a “small group of players” were able to access the campaign, Collections, Echoes, and “other reward info”. It advised players who don’t want the experience spoiled to “be extremely cautious” on social media in the lead-up to The Final Shape’s release next week, and requested those who have seen the spoilers to “please be thoughtful of others”.
