EA has made it clear that it won’t be unveiling any new Star Wars games at next week’s EA Play Live. In a tweet last night, EA stated, “all of us look forward to celebrating with you next year when we share our vision for the Galaxy far, far away!” Well, that seems to imply that we won’t be seeing any new Star Wars games until 2022.
It’s worth noting that EA had never indicated that it would reveal new Star Wars games next week. Though exec Andrew Wilson previously mentioned that the successful Jedi: Fallen Order was the “first title in an entirely new franchise”, which sparked speculation that a follow-up was in the works.
Then there’s the situation with Star Wars: The Old Republic – though this isn’t being handled internally by EA.
With its 10-year exclusivity deal nearly coming to an end, EA is no longer the sole publisher capable of making big-budget Star Wars games. In fact, Ubisoft has already announced its own open-world game set in the galaxy far, far away. But that doesn’t mean EA has given up on creating Star Wars titles.
We won’t be showing any new Star Wars games at EA Play Live on July 22nd…but all of us look forward to celebrating with you next year when we share our vision for the Galaxy far, far away!

Coming back to EA Play Live, BioWare recently announced that it won’t be presenting anything either. So, don’t hold your breath for any updates on the next Dragon Age or Mass Effect.
But what can we expect from the event? EA has mentioned that we can anticipate new details about Battlefield 2042, including a look at the part of the game developed by Ripple Effect (the recently renamed DICE LA). The event will also showcase Apex Legends and Lost in Random (the next game from Fe developer Zoink).
However, sci-fi fans might not be completely disappointed. An earlier report suggested that EA will announce its upcoming, highly-anticipated Dead Space revival at the show.
EA Play Live will be streamed at 6pm next Thursday, July 22nd, and is set to run for 40 minutes.
