The former Media Molecule staffers at Ambient Studios have unveiled an exciting 11-minute gameplay footage from the prototype of their upcoming RTS/god game centered around the bubonic plague, Death, Inc.
This video might not showcase the completed art (though the screenshots offer a glimpse of the game’s final appearance), yet it successfully conveys a great sense of the game’s fundamental mechanics. You’ll be using brush strokes to direct your voracious infected hordes and unleash them upon the unsuspecting population. The game will also incorporate physics, and you’ll need to deploy a certain number of units to push a crank and open a gate. Thanks to the accessible control scheme, all you need to do is draw a clockwise trail around a crank for your units to turn it. However, in some instances, you’ll want them to do the opposite to provide protection. Occasionally, the gates will shut if the crank isn’t continuously turned, requiring you to multitask and assign some infected to handle the crank duties while others spread death and disease.
The entire concept seems to bear more resemblance to Pikmin than one might initially expect, but Ambient Studios has yet to disclose how the game’s business simulation aspect will function.
Those eager to see Death, Inc. on Steam can visit its freshly established Steam Greenlight page. Meanwhile, its Kickstarter campaign could use more support as it has only reached £36,684 of its £300,000 goal with 26 days remaining until the March 6th deadline.
Subject to sufficient funding, Death, Inc. is scheduled for an October release on PC, Mac, and Linux.
